A SHINY NEW EXHIBITION INCLUDING A SCULPTURAL PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION, VIDEO PROJECTIONS, A ZINE AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Shae Rooke and Jess Dubblu‘s studios at Yonder Art Space are plagued by seagulls, and each spring Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ is re-enacted on the rooftop. The artists weapons of choice include all and any shiny objects that they can get their hands on in misguided attempts to scare away the birds. For One Night in Footscray Festival, Shae and Jess bring their best line of defence – a floating, glittering disco ball made from 100 inflated goon bags and a series of related video and photographic works. Additionally, an intructional zine demonstrates how to turn your empty goon bag into convincing Xmas decorations.
‘Temporary Territory’ is a comedic look at celebration, memory, aesthetics and humans’ futile attempts to fight against nature. Shae and Jess invite you to gather with in trashy celebration under their goon bag disco ball to ward away the birds.
Shown as a part of One Night in Footscray Festival, 2017.
