FLUORESCENCE
Art and science are both about asking a question and experimenting to find an answer. Artists Shae Rooke and Jess Dubblu have often dabbled in the scientific to explore their practice. Now they are getting the professional help they so dearly need.
In collaboration with the brilliant Dr. Loz of SciencePlay Kids, they have created a laboratory of fluorescence, with installations and experiments that are suitable for children and adults alike.
EXHIBITION: An immersive, glowing sci-fi landscape installation. Spawned from reclaimed highlighters, expiring flowers and black lights, the process of fluorescence illuminates the underlying cell structures of flower petals in a neon display. Secret glow-in-the-dark drawings of animals were also hidden throughout the venue.
WORKSHOP FOR KIDS: Hosted by Dr. Loz we looked at how animals like butterflies, birds, bees and even reindeer see the world. Kids made their own glowing animal as viewed by those that see in UV.
WORKSHOP AFTER DARK: This late session with Dr. Loz delved into the unseen worlds around us. Exploring topics such as how fluorescence is part of the mating rituals of birds and gives that glow to your beverage.
